Referral Terms and Conditions

Last Updated: October 18, 2017

Referrals are a critical part of growing our Axios community, so thank you for helping! Axios readers (“you” or “your”) have the opportunity to receive Axios gifts in exchange for recruiting others to benefit from smart news and information. (“Referral Program”).

TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS REFERRAL PROGRAM, YOU MUST AGREE TO THESE REFERRAL PROGRAM TERMS AND CONDITIONS (“TERMS”), AS WELL AS THE AXIOS TERMS AND CONDITIONS AND AXIOS PRIVACY POLICY.

Axios Media, Inc. (“Axios”, “we”, “us” or “our”) reserves the right to suspend or terminate the Referral Program or a user’s ability to participate in the Referral Program at any time for any reason. Without limiting the foregoing rights, we reserve the right to disqualify you from participating in this Referral Program at any time at our discretion if you fail to comply with these Terms. Violations of these Terms may also result in the forfeiture of all Sign-up credits you previously earned through this Referral Program. We reserve the right to review and investigate all referral activities and to suspend accounts or modify rewards in our sole discretion, as we deem fair and appropriate.

Eligibility

Eligibility to participate in this Referral Program is limited to individuals. This Referral Program cannot be used by businesses for affiliate lead generation or other commercial purposes.

Qualifying Referrals

You can Axios gifts by recruiting others to sign-up for Axios newsletters with a valid email address.

A Referred Subscriber who fits the description above is referred to as a “Qualified Referral”.

If the Referred Subscriber does not

  1. click on the Referral Link in their invite email or any other invite mechanism you sent him or her, and
  2. complete his or her sign up during a Axios Site visit initiated through your Referral Link,

you will not receive credit for their sign-up and we will have no liability to you for such Sign-up Credit, because there is no discernible way to identify that the subscriber resulted from your referral.

Sign-up credits are redeemable only for Axios gifts as listed on the Axios Site (or as we otherwise make available). Sign-up credits have no cash value, can only be redeemed for such Axios rewards, may be subject to expiration dates or other restrictions in our sole discretion, and may be revoked at any time. Sign-up credits cannot, under any circumstances, be redeemed for cash or any cash equivalent including, without limitation, gift cards or refunds. Sign-up Credits are not transferable and may not be auctioned, traded, bartered or sold. Please allow up to three (3) business days for Sign-up Credit to be added to your account after your Referred Subscriber completes a qualifying action.

You are responsible for any and all tax liability resulting from Sign-up Credits.

You are limited to one Sign-up Credit per Qualified Referral, regardless of how many newsletters, updates, or other Axios online publications such Qualified Referral subscribes to.

Referred Subscribers

You cannot refer yourself to generate Qualified Referrals and earn Sign-up Credits. For a Subscriber to count as a Qualified Referral, the Referred Subscriber must hold different identifying information than you and the Referred Subscriber must not have previously signed up for any Axios newsletters or email updates (including, without limitation, under any other names, email addresses or aliases). A Referred Subscriber may only use one Referral Link. If a Referred Subscriber receives Referral Links from multiple participants in this Referral Program, only the participant whose Referral Link is used to make the qualifying subscription will be awarded Sign-up Credit.

Sharing Referral Links

This Referral Program may be used only for personal purposes and you may share your Referral Link only with your personal connections. We reserve the right to revoke or refuse to issue any Sign-up Credits for Qualified Referrals we suspect were generated through improper channels or otherwise in violation of these Terms.

No Spam; Sponsored Disclosure

You emails to Referral Subscribers must:

  1. be created and distributed in a personal manner,
  2. not be distributed in a bulk manner, and
  3. not be an unsolicited commercial email or a ‘spam’ message under any applicable law or regulation.

Any posting to social media with the Referral Link must include an explicit reference that the posting is “promoted”, “supported”, “sponsored” by Axios, or other language making clear that you are participating in a referral program (feel free to point out that your referrals can do the same!).

Any messages that do not abide by the requirements set forth in the previous sentence are expressly prohibited and constitute grounds for exclusion from this Referral Program. Subscriptions to Axios made through a Referral Link that was distributed through an unauthorized channel will not result in Qualified Referrals, and, if discovered, any Sign-up Credits issued in connection with such transactions may be revoked.

Termination and Changes

We reserve the right to deactivate your account and a Referred Subscriber’s account and cancel all related Sign-up Credits, if we determine, in our sole discretion, that you or the Referred Subscriber:

  1. has tampered with this Referral Program;
  2. has used (or attempted to use) this Referral Program in a fraudulent, abusive, unethical, unsportsmanlike or otherwise questionable or suspicious manner;
  3. has breached any of these Terms; or
  4. has violated any law, statute, or governmental regulation.

We also reserve the right to cancel this Referral Program or change these Terms at any time and for any reason in our sole discretion. When we change these Terms, we will update the ‘Last Updated’ date at the top of these Terms. If we cancel our Referral Program, any unused Sign-up Credits will be forfeited at that time. PLEASE REGULARLY CHECK THE AXIOS SITE TO VIEW THE THEN-CURRENT TERMS.
